Whereas, January is National Mentoring Month and this year celebrates 15 years as a nationwide movement for quality mentoring opportunities to connect more of our community’s young people with caring adults; and

Whereas,The National Mentoring Partnership (MENTOR) and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health launched National Mentoring Month in 2002 to focus our attention on the national need for mentors for our youth; and to show how a community, by increasing its number of mentors, can help ensure positive outcomes for our youth; and

Whereas, Mentoring relationships are at their best when true connections are made between a caring adult and a young person who receives guidance through real life decisions; and

Whereas, Pearland ISD RISE Mentoring program connects mentors to our young citizens and cultivates relationships that provide crucial support and guidance as they grow and develop into our next generation of leaders.

Now, Therefore, I, Tom Reid, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Pearland, do hereby proclaim Thursday, January 12th, 2017

NATIONAL MENTORING MONTH

In Pearland and I ask all citizens both near and far to join with me as we recognize 15 years of the National Mentoring Month movement and commend the Pearland ISD RISE Mentoring program for the 230 RISE mentors that operate on all 23 school campuses and empower our young people to make smart choices that put them on a path to making better decisions.
