Station History:
Originally located at Apple Springs and McLean Road in a 2-bay barn, the original Station 2 was more of a storage building than a firehouse. This old firehouse had 1 small office with a chair, desk, computer, and a bathroom.
In 2014 construction started to for a new Station 2, located at 6050 Fite Road at Harkey. This firehouse opened in 2016 and was the upgrade that the Fire Department and the community needed. It was the second of a 2-house build that would bring state-of-the-art facilities to Pearland. Firehouse 2 is a 2 story house and was the second of all Pearland firehouses to have a watch office. Watch offices are a long standing tradition in a firehouse. It is where a firefighter is assigned to “keep watch of the firehouse” to greet any citizens, announce when other members or dignitaries are in the house and make sure that the crew catches all the information on the run they are dispatched too.
This firehouse includes:
- State-of-the art gym
- Second floor storage
- Purvis alerting system
- 10 individual dorms with large lockers to keep uniforms, bedding and other essentials
- Watch office
- Gear washer
- Closed off Bunker Gear storage area to keep the gear out of the sun and store away from exhaust from the apparatuses that ultimately breaks it down.
- 3M Solo Rescue Decon machine for SCBA’s, Boots, Gloves, helmets, and hoods to continue the fight against cancer and properly decon our protective gear.
