Station History:
Construction for Firehouse 5 began in 2009. This station was going to be the City's westernmost station and first station located west of 288, where population in Pearland began to rapidly grow. Designed as the first all-"Green” building, the station boasts special features including (but not limited to) countertops made from glass bottles, walls painted with recycled paint, Green-certified ceiling tiles, recycled carpeting, used tires for gym flooring, “tile” floors made from recycled paper, AAON A/C system, recycled cabinets with shelving, dry erase “green” paint on the wall in the training room, and ENERGY STAR-certified appliances.
The firehouse opened in February of 2011 in the middle of an ice storm that hit Southeast Texas. This was the second house that PFD and PEMS shared together but the first one to be built from the ground up with the Fire and EMS merge in mind.
This firehouse is currently the oldest firehouse in the city.
This firehouse features:
- Gym
- 30-person training room with projector
- Purvis alerting system
- 10 individual dorms with large lockers to keep uniforms, bedding, and other essentials
- All-weather bay doors
- when closed, the bay doors make the building category 4 hurricane certified.
