Reminder: Recycle year round
The City of Pearland wants residents to recycle all year. There are multiple social, environmental and economic benefits associated with recycling. Pearland households that participate in the residential curbside collection are encouraged to utilize the single stream curbside recycling service by placing recyclables in the 96-gallon green carts. Currently, the City of Pearland diverts 17 percent of municipal solid waste from the landfill. The citywide program aims to reduce the amount of material entering the landfill and to maximize curbside recycling.
Acceptable items include:
- corrugated and boxboard cardboard
- magazines, newspapers and junk mail
- clear, green and brown glass bottles and jars
- tin, steel or aluminum cans
- dairy and juice containers
- plastic with the # 1, # 2, # 3, # 4, # 5, and # 7
Also, remember it is important to assure the recycling items are clean and dry. Pizza boxes should be disposed of as regular trash due to the oil on the boxes. Plastic bags should never be placed in your cart, because they could damage machines used to sort the material. If in doubt, leave it out, as one spilled item could contaminate the rest of the recyclables as well.
