A new curbside recycling program will begin soon

Post Date:03/27/2017 9:07 a.m.

dreamstime_m_67254159Pearland residents will soon be able to recycle unwanted clothing, shoes and home goods. Beginning today, Keep Pearland Beautiful is partnering with a vendor to provide free curbside textile recycling once a week on your regular recycling collection day.

Residents will receive specialized orange collections bags in the mail to separate the textile recycling from their regular recycling. Items must be placed in these bags to be picked up and the bags must not weigh more than 50 pounds.

Acceptable items:

  • Clothing
  • Shoes, sandals and slippers
  • Hats and gloves
  • Handbags and purses
  • Halloween costumes
  • Stuffed animals
  • Sleeping bags
  • Pet beds and clothing
  • Bedding and pillows
  • Linens
  • Curtains/Draperies
  • Household goods

This program will target the textiles going into landfills, not items being donated to charities, churches, non-profits and other organizations. The City of Pearland and Keep Pearland Beautiful encourage residents to donate items to a local charitable organization first.

For a complete list of items, or for more information, visit mykpb.org. Items can also be dropped off at the labeled bin at the Stella Roberts Recycling Center, operated by Keep Pearland Beautiful and located at 5800 Magnolia Road, Pearland, Texas 77584.
