Independence Park to substantially close for improvements
The City of Pearland will be substantially closing Independence Park on Friday, May 26 in preparation for the Independence Park Phase 1 Improvement Project. The project includes a reorientation of the park entrance, landscaping, relocation and replacement of the existing playground, improvements to the existing pavilion, the construction of additional parking and the construction of an amphitheater for special events. Construction for this project is expected to conclude in September 2018.
During the Park’s closure, park users will still have access through the Liberty Drive access point, with a road block at the park bridge, so that the trails can still be utilized by residents. The current dog park will remain open through a temporary entrance off of Pearland parkway. The rest of the park will be closed to the public. The closure includes the basketball court pavilion and the Independence Park pool.
This project is part of the city’s effort to ensure Quality Parks, Recreation and Events – one of Pearland City Council’s six Strategic Priorities.
