Construction set to begin on Pearland Parkway Intersection
The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) recently approved a permit to reconstruct intersections on Pearland Parkway at FM 518 at Broadway. This permit allows the City to work in the TXDOT Right Of Way to construct an additional left turn lane and modify the traffic signals for southbound traffic.
As the City grows and new development arises, intersections often encounter greater traffic flows than they were originally constructed to handle, increasing congestion and raising safety concerns. Since rapidly changing traffic patterns are hard to predict, the $235,000 project is a reactive effort to modify the intersection and signals to address these conditions.
Additionally, the 2016 City of Pearland Citizen Survey showed that Pearland residents were concerned with traffic and congestion issues, with only 24 percent of respondent’s reporting a positive rating for traffic flow. This project aims to tackle those concerns and the needs of the City to maintain or improve mobility efficiency throughout the City while improving safety. A bid for the construction was awarded in February. Now with TXDOT’s approval, construction will begin in late May and is expected to be complete by the end of August.
