Screen Shot 2017-06-12 at 10.57.37 AMConstruction on the Bailey Road Expansion Project is winding down with many parts complete or near completion. The $32.9 million project expands Bailey Road to a four lane divided boulevard for approximate 2.76 miles from FM 1128 to Veterans Drive. The widened segment will provide an additional east/west major thoroughfare corridor across the southern portion of the City and install drainage improvements to eliminate the deep roadside ditch.

Due to the signal pole changes, installation of the traffic signals will be delayed until September for the arrival of the new poles and arms. Construction will continue to move forward and the switch to open all the lanes to traffic is expected to occur in early July.

The project was selected by the Houston Galveston Area Council to receive 80 percent federal funding with 20 percent local match through the 2013 Transportation Improvement Program.

The Veterans Drive intersection is complete, with the exception of the section on the south side where junction boxes for the underground drainage need to be replaced. Irrigation installation is in progress in the median as well as brick paver installation behind the north curb and at median noses. The 10’ pedestrian path is 80 percent complete and pedestrian facilities are also being installed. A major segment of the City’s fiber optic network is currently being installed along the corridor as well.

The project team is currently working on wrapping up the final list of construction issues, including the junction boxes at Veterans Drive and the traffic signal infrastructure for final completion of the project.
