Pearland names new Director of Community Development
The City of Pearland announced the appointment of John McDonald as the new Director of Community Development. McDonald will join the City beginning Monday, July 10.
“During his career, John has gained experience in a large, complex and sophisticated community and organization. He knows the big picture and all aspects of municipal operations,” said Clay Pearson, City Manager. “I’m confident that John will be an outstanding leader for the Community Development Department joining our group of existing professionals dedicated to quality development that’s safe and adds long-term value.”
McDonald most recently held a position with the City of Bellaire as the Community Development Director. In addition, he served in a similar role in Dickinson and was the City Administrator in Ovilla, Texas. McDonald was also a Senior Planner for the City of San Antonio for four years.
As Director, McDonald will be responsible for leading the Community Development staff, implementing the City’s Comprehensive Plan and the Pearland 20/20 Community Strategic Plan. He is also charged with coordinating with the Pearland Economic Development Corporation and regional agencies, plus lead for the City’s community planning, permits and inspections.
“I’m excited to have John join our team. He has a comprehensive background and a strong vision of what needs to be accomplished in the future,” said Deputy City Manager Jon Branson. “I believe he will be a great asset to the City.”
