City receives Communications Team Of the Year distinction
The City of Pearland Communications Department was named Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) 2017 Government Communications Team of the Year and took home four PRSA awards for excellence in communications. The annual PRSA Excalibur Awards is hosted to honor outstanding professional accomplishments in the development and execution of comprehensive public relations programs and individual communications tactics.
The City received Bronze Excalibur Awards in 4 areas:
- Crisis Communications and issues management, for its coverage and response to the death of Officer Endy Ekpanya. The award is given to organizations who displayed notable success in undertaking programs to deal with an unplanned event that required an immediate response.
- Reputation / brand management, for the City’s work to promote police-community relations and open the dialogue between residents and the Police Department. In 2017, the Communications Department executed a strategic communications plan that included communications for events such as Coffee with a Cop and Ice Cream with a Cop. In addition, the department released a targeted video series appropriately titled Police Talk.
- Video, for its Angry Tweets web video. The honor is awarded to entities who show notable success in using video to publicize services or issues, shape public opinion or promote awareness.
- Webcasts, for the City’s Pearscope live-streaming video series that provided tours of City facilities.
