Pearland Library closes temporarily for expansion
Services, Staff, and Programs available at Alternate Locations
The Pearland Tom Reid Library will be closing for renovation and expansion to meet the needs of the growing community and high demand from patrons at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12. Starting Aug.14, patrons will be able to pick up holds and drop off books at the library’s temporary location near the tax office at 2341 Galveston Avenue, Pearland. The site will be staffed Monday-Wednesday 10-7; Thursday-Friday 9-6; and Saturday 10-6, and will include a small browsing collection. There is also an external book drop available at the site.
All library programming will resume in September at the Pearland Recreation Center and Natatorium, 4141 Bailey Road. “We are excited to partner with the City of Pearland Parks & Recreation team during the closure to bring a holistic approach to health, both mind and body,” says Library Director Lori Purvis. “It’s a beautiful facility where we hope to cross-train the patrons to enjoy both recreation and library services.”
For detailed programming information, visit the Pearland Branch link at bcls.lib.tx.us. The library is expected to reopen early in 2018 with enhanced programming space, additional study spaces, a new and popular opening day collection, and a creative/tech makerspace.
The libraries are operated in cooperation with the Brazoria County Library System which staffs the libraries and provides programs; the City of Pearland provides the facilities and support. There are two libraries in the City including the Tom Reid Library and the Westside Library located on Business Center Drive. The two Pearland libraries are the highest in the Brazoria County network in terms of circulation. The project is part of the bonds approved by Pearland voters for wide variety of Capital Improvement Projects.
