Old Alvin Road Widening Project to go out to bid soon

Post Date:08/21/2017

The bidding phase for the Old Alvin Road Widening Project is expected to begin this month. The $11 million project includes the expansion of Old Alvin Road to a four-lane undivided concrete curb and gutter roadway, from Town Ditch to McHard Road. The Project also includes the construction of a detention pond north of Town Ditch, a trail on the north bank of Town Ditch, as well as improvements to drainage near Linwood Street, along Old Alvin Road, and between Orange and Plum St.

The existing 2-lane asphalt roadway between East Plum Street and McHard Road is a major collector in the City’s Thoroughfare Plan. The widening of the roadway is aimed at improving traffic conditions in the area. This proposed roadway expansion was part of the 2007 Bond Referendum and will facilitate mobility in the City by providing an additional north-south route between Broadway (FM 518) and McHard Road.

This project is in line with City Council’s Strategic Priorities of Sustainable Infrastructure and Fiscal Responsibility.
