Council awards contract for Old Alvin Road Widening Project

Post Date:11/27/2017 8:58 am

A construction contract has been awarded for the Old Alvin Road Widening Project. The $3.6 million contract will allow construction to begin on the part of Old Alvin Road from Town Ditch to McHard Road. Road work is expected to begin in January 2018 with a target completion date of December 2018.

Approved as part of the 2007 bond referendum to enhance north-south mobility between Broadway (FM 518) and McHard Road, the $11 million project includes the expansion of Old Alvin Road to a four-lane undivided concrete curb and gutter roadway, from Town Ditch to McHard Road. The overall project also includes the construction of a detention pond north of Town Ditch, a trail on the north bank of Town Ditch, as well as improvements to drainage and paving along Linwood Street, E. Orange Street between SH 35 and Schleider, and along Old Alvin Road between Orange and Plum St. The existing 2-lane asphalt roadway between East Plum Street and McHard Road is a major collector in the City’s Thoroughfare Plan
