On Monday, May 28 changes to Chapter 11 of the City’s Code of Ordinances went into effect which requires all restaurants located within the City of Pearland to post their inspection scorecard in a window or interior wall near the main entrance of the establishment. These changes put the City of Pearland in line with the most recent version of the Texas Food Establishment Rules.

Scorecards will prominently display the letter grade that the respective restaurant has earned on their most recent inspection. Inspections are graded by beginning with 100 points and deducting points for each violation observed by the officer conducting the inspection.

Restaurants who receive an A or 100 - 92 points are considered generally superior in food handling practices and overall food facility maintenance. Restaurants who receive a B or 91 - 84 points are considered generally good in food handling practices and overall food facility maintenance. R who receive a C or 83 – 76 points are considered generally acceptable in food handling practices and overall food facility maintenance. Restaurants who receive a 75 - 0 points are considered poor in food handling practices and overall general food facility maintenance.

A restaurant receiving a score of seventy-five (75) or below will be issued a scorecard and not a grade card. The scorecard will indicate the actual score received. Restaurants who fail the inspection but correct major violations at the time of the inspection will be issued a scorecard. Full inspections for restaurants should be available upon request.

Following Sunday, July 1, all 388 restaurants in Pearland will have their inspection scorecard posted in the front of the establishment. Restaurants who do not have their scorecard posted shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and shall, upon conviction by a court of competent jurisdiction, be assessed fines or other punishment.

These changes give Pearland residents more information and insights into the conditions of the restaurants they choose to eat at and reinforces accountability of restaurants for their inspection scores as well.
