Pearland’s Independence Park Hosts Fourth of July Celebration of Freedom
Don’t miss this year’s “Celebration of Freedom” event as the City of Pearland celebrates Independence Day on Thursday, July 4 from 6 to 10 p.m. The family-friendly event is free to attend and includes a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the grand re-opening of Independence Park.
Attractions at Celebration of Freedom include a spectacular firework display unleashed by VCA Westside Animal Hospital and Clinic and live music on the H-E-B Entertainment Stage featuring The Slags and headlined by country music artist Jake Worthington, season 6 runner-up on the NBC TV series “The Voice.” Other festivities include a VFW military salute; craft, novelty and food vendors; and the Whataburger Kids’ Zone play area.
“Celebration of Freedom has so many unique facets,” said Dr. Christopher Orlea, Director of Pearland Parks & Recreation. “In a culmination of summer, celebration, and community, the Pearland Parks & Recreation Celebration of Freedom is a hallmark event that demonstrates all things Pearland, Texas, and America.”
Attendees can bring food and drinks—including alcohol—or purchase from a variety of food and beverage vendors at the park. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own seating, such as camp chairs and picnic blankets. Please note that glass containers, tobacco and pets are prohibited. For additional information, please consult the FAQ located on the Celebration of Freedom Special Event page.
Independence Park Re-Opens with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Celebration of Freedom will kick off with a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand re-opening of Independence Park on July 4th at 6 p.m. The grand re-opening follows the phase one completion of the park’s improvement project.
Improvements to the park include the addition of an amphitheater, covered stage, replacement and relocation of the existing playground, enhancements to the existing pavilion, reorientation of the park entrance, and new landscaping.
Along with the above additions, the Forever Parks Foundation will unveil a new mural at Independence Park. The mural is supported by a City of Pearland Cultural Arts Grant program from the City of Pearland Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Independence Park will remain closed until July 4. The park will open just prior to the ribbon cutting ceremony, at approximately 5:30 p.m.
“For decades, Pearlanders have enjoyed the open space and amenities of this site,” Dr. Orlea said. “It is truly beyond words to share with our community an updated Independence Park that meets their appropriately high expectations. What a better way to do that than with great friends, great music, and best of all, a new, great location!”
