Pearland Installs Curbside Water Billing and Collections Drop Box
In the past, Pearland residents used a drive-thru window located at City Hall to deposit utility billing payments. Since Utility Billing was moved to the City Hall Annex and the drive-thru window no longer usable, the Utility Billing department utilized an old library book drop box located on the opposite side of the Annex for residents to deposit pay. Despite this, many residents still entered the City Hall Annex to pay their utility bills, which posed difficult for senior residents and residents with disabilities, and during inclement weather.
While the City employs several strategies to drive customers to online payments, the City recognizes many residents, including seniors and residents with disabilities, would benefit from a convenient alternative similar to the City’s past drive-thru window.
In response, the City of Pearland installed a curbside collections drop box in front of the City Hall Annex.
The drop box, secure and cemented to the curb on the east side of the City Hall Annex, is accessible for residents driving up from either direction, allowing drivers and passengers to deposit payments into the box.
Utility Billing staff plan to check the drop box three times per day. Payments deposited after 2 p.m. will be posted to the account the following business day.
The drop box was installed by the City’s Public Works department. Public Works located the box, which cost $1,752, and staff were able to install the box at no additional cost.
The City of Pearland’s Utility Billing Department strives to provide timely and accurate water, sewer, and garbage services, and financial integrity in billing. Utility Billing offers online billing, as well as two drop box locations to service both east and west sides of Pearland, at the City Hall Annex and the Pearland Public Safety Building.
