The City of Pearland Parks and Recreation Department has published a plan to safely reopen the Recreation Center and Natatorium, playgrounds, and basketball courts on Friday, September 11th. Then following, on September 15th, the Delores Fenwick Nature Center will resume modified hours as well. Finally, positive health trends along will allow for some components of the Knapp Activity Center located on Grand Boulevard to begin as well.
Operating changes will be implemented at all facilities, including a reservation system for use of the various facilities within the Rec Center and Natatorium.
“We are so excited to reopen and welcome all of our members back to enjoy the facilities.” Said Dr. Chris Orlea, Director of Pearland Parks and Recreation. He continued, “one of the most difficult challenges we have faced is not being able to interact with the community members that come to the Rec Center regularly. It has taken a lot of work, but we have figured out a way that we think allows us to safely get the ball rolling towards reopening.”
Memberships have been suspended during the closure. Upon first visit back membership will be reactivated,1 and a credit will be issued to account for the current reduced schedule and service offering required to meet COVID-19 safety parameters. For non-members, memberships and punch pass options will be available for purchase.
Days of operation will be Monday through Friday 6 a.m.-9 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-6 p.m., with Sunday set aside as a day for facilities to close and staff to clean all member-facing amenities for the upcoming week of use.
