Updated November 19, 2020.
Note: Below is an update to the Hughes Ranch Road. This update allows for two-way traffic between Cullen Parkway and North Hampton Drive.
On November 24, the Hughes Ranch Road contractor will begin the installation of a revised Traffic Control Plan (TCP) for the east end of Hughes Ranch Road. This revised plan will take the place of the previously planned total closure of all westbound traffic and replace that with a plan that accommodates westbound traffic between Cullen Parkway and North Hampton Drive on the new inside lane. This will provide access to Hillhouse Road and Dawson High School, Crystal Lake, Linda Lane, Sterling Drive, Brookney and North Hampton Drive from Cullen. Traffic entering Hughes Ranch Road from any of these streets (ONLY) EXCEPT North Hampton, will be able to turn either direction after yielding right of way.
ALL westbound traffic will be detoured north, off of Hughes Ranch at North Hampton. At the intersection of North Hampton Drive and Southdown Drive vehicles will be detoured either Right, towards Hillhouse and Cullen via Hawk Road, or Left, towards Country Place Boulevard and SH288. Westbound traffic will be allowed to enter Hughes Ranch from either the southbound or northbound directions on Cullen. The northbound left turn lane will be re-opened at this location to facilitate this access.
Eastbound traffic will be accommodated in the outside lane to Cullen and will be allowed to make right turns/ left turns and straight through movements via the traffic signal at the intersection with Cullen. Eastbound traffic may enter Hughes Ranch Road from any intersection.
Challenger Elementary School bound traffic will continue as present. Dawson High School traffic will be able to use Hillhouse Road to access the high school or return to the west via Hawk and Southdown Drive.
This configuration will remain in place for approximately six months, or until new lanes become available to accommodate westbound traffic.
CAUTION: These new lanes will appear narrow with two way traffic. School Bus traffic will make wide turns and may cross the yellow lane dividers while making turns. Additionally, these lanes will now serve the construction efforts. The contractor will have flagmen directing traffic around construction activities during these efforts.

Below is an outdated version of this release, in which all westbound lanes were close. This traffic plan no longer applies.
On or about Saturday, November 21, ALL WESTBOUND LANES on Hughes Ranch Road will be closed for re-construction until further notice. There will be no provisions for westbound traffic on Hughes Ranch Road.
All traffic using Hughes Ranch Road, regardless of origin or destination will be required to exit eastbound traffic. Due to school traffic to and from Challenger Elementary only one eastbound lane is fully available for traffic. For that reason two way traffic will not be available on the existing new lanes. All street intersections, driveways and access points will be required to exit the area toward the east (ending at Cullen Parkway) and to enter the area from the west (Smith Ranch or Country Place). There will be no westbound access from Miller Ranch. ALL TRAFFIC on Hughes Ranch Road will be EASTBOUND ONLY.
Detour Routes will include:
- Southdown residents should use the Southdown Drive through the subdivision to Country Place Boulevard or to Cullen Parkway via Hawk Road.
- Autumn Lakes and South Hampton residents should make their way to Miller Ranch Road then south to Broadway then west.
- Sterling, Brookney, Linda Lane and Crystal Lake residents should use the eastbound lane of Hughes Ranch Road to access Cullen Parkway.
Additionally, the contractor will close each driveway, street intersection and access point one at a time sequentially for up to one week at a time to re-construct those areas. During that time drivers will be detoured via alternate routes to either Country Place Boulevard or Cullen Parkway or Miller Ranch.
