“Adventures with Edu-Katie,” the City of Pearland’s award-winning environmental education video series, is coming to Independence Park at 9 a.m. on July 24 for its very first live show.
“Adventures with Edu-Katie,” which began as a YouTube series in March 2020, is going out into the community in an effort to connect with children who have been educated in a virtual setting for the past year.
“Having ‘Adventures with Edu-Katie’ in person means so much to me,” said Parks Naturalist and host Katie Boughal. “In the virtual world, forming a connection with the audience is extremely difficult. In a live, in-person performance, that human connection is unmissable and part of the experience.”
The interactive live show will follow Edu-Katie a she tries to catch a fictional poacher who has come to harm animals at Independence Park, teaching children about endangered wildlife in Pearland along the way.
Parents and children are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket or chair to enjoy the show.
“For much of our audience this might be their first interaction with live theater,” Boughal said. “With this show, out in the open air of Independence Park, there is not the expectation to sit still and stay quiet.”
As an added perk, the first 75 children to arrive at the live show will receive a free nature exploration pack that includes a vest and explorer hat, bug catching tools, binoculars and a flashlight to use for the rest of the summer.
“To say I am extremely excited for this event is an understatement,” Boughal said. “‘Adventures with Edu-Katie’ is a dream I have had for many years and I have only recently been able to see come to fruition.”
