Mandatory Notice Relating to Houston Water Testing for the Month of May

Post Date:06/13/2025 4:25 pm

On May 21st, 2025, the City of Houston experienced a brief issue regarding water clarity at the Northeast Water Purification Plant Expansion (NEWPPE). The event was known as a turbidity excursion, turbidity being a measure of water clarity.

Being a customer of the City of Houston for a portion of its water supply, Pearland is required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to alert residents of the event mentioned above. Per tests performed by the City of Houston, disinfection levels were consistently within and above the required standards set by TCEQ, with no pathogens detected at any point in the event.

Although the water purchased from Houston primarily comes from plants other than the NEWPPE, because the water system is interconnected the City of Pearland is required to provide notice to residents. All compliance testing done by the City of Pearland was within TCEQ and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulatory requirements and at no point required any action on the part of Pearland Water customers.

At this time, no further action is needed, but should residents have any questions they are welcome to reach out to Pearland Water’s Utilities Service Center at 281.652.1900.
