The Pearland Fire Department, depending on the needs of the community, will hire Firefighter/Paramedics and Firefighter/EMTs (Basic or Advanced), as well as Paramedics-Only who the department will send to the fire academy.

There will be no make-up dates for the written test, PAT, or interviews so please take the appropriate steps needed to attend.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications outlined below to be considered for employment:

• Valid Driver's License
• High School Diploma, or equivalent
• Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Firefighter Certification, or IFSAC SEAL
• Texas Department of State Health Services Emergency Medical Certification, or National Registry
• Must be able to pass an online behavioral assessment, written test, physical agility test, interviews, background investigation, NFPA physical and drug screen, and breathe alcohol screening.

Yes. To be considered for testing, you must already have your Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Basic Structural Firefighter and EMT certifications prior to the scheduled test date.

If your certifications are in progress or you're still in school, you will not be eligible to test until they are complete. We understand that certification timelines vary, but incomplete or missing documentation may result in disqualification from the current hiring cycle.

Important:
If you’ve already submitted your application but didn’t upload your certifications, you must email them as soon as possible to ensure your application can be updated before the testing date. Failing to submit your certifications in time may result in being disqualified from this round.

1. Applications open and candidates submit applications.
2. Qualified candidates will be contacted and invited to test.
   1. Testing will be held at the Fire Administration Building located at 2703 Veterans Drive, Pearland, TX 77584.
3. Test Day
   1. Written Test
      1. Doors close at 8am and no applicant will be allowed entry after this time.
      2. Those who do not scare a 70 percent on the written test will will not move on to the Physical Agility Test
   2. Physical Agility Test
      1. To be conducted at 1.p.m., same day after the successful passing of the Written Test.
      2. Those who fail the PAT will not be invited to interview
   3. Interviews
      1. Out-of-State Applicant Interview Panel
         1. To be conducted after successful passing of the Written and Physical Agility tests.
      2. In-State Interview Panel
         1. To be conducted in the days after Test Day. 

Changing careers to become a firefighter is an exciting decision! To join the Pearland Fire Department, here’s what you need to know:

• Education & Certification: Most firefighters in Texas complete fire academy training and obtain a basic firefighter certification through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP). Additionally, you’ll need to become certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or higher.
• Examinations: You will need to pass our written exam, physical agility test, and interview(s) as part of the hiring process.
• Steps to Take:
  1. Research and enroll in a fire academy program if you’re not already certified. Reach out to local community colleges and private educational programs in the area for further information.
  2. Obtain your EMT certification through a recognized program-- often also at local community colleges.
  3. Check Pearland Fire Department’s recruitment page for open positions, application details, and upcoming testing dates.

Anyone may apply, but those without the required Fire and EMS certs will not be invited to test.

Certs must be attached to your application upon submission. 

All of our staff are cross trained as Firefighter/EMT or above. You would be required to attend a fire academy and obtain your TCFP certification within 12 month of hire.
