The Pearland Police Department has partnered with other area agencies to share crime information via a user-friendly web based service: CrimeReports.com.
Citizens will easily be able to go to the Web site and enter a ZIP code or address and see what crimes are occurring in their area. CrimeReports uses Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) definitions to report 15 crime types including homicide, burglary, theft and vandalism.
CrimeReports works with more than 700 law enforcement agencies across the United States to create the largest and most accurate online resource for up-to-date crime and sex offender information. The Web site will be another tool citizens can use to stay informed and up-to-date on what is happening in the community. CrimeReports also offers crime alert e-mail service and a mobile app.
Uniform Crime Reports
The Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program was conceived in 1929 by the International Association of Chiefs of Police to meet a need for reliable, uniform crime statistics for the nation. In 1930, the FBI was tasked with collecting, publishing, and archiving those statistics. Today, several annual statistical publications, such as the comprehensive Crime in the United States, are produced from data provided by nearly 17,000 law enforcement agencies across the United States.
