The Administrative function of the police department is charged with the day-to-day oversight and supervision of the department's 185 sworn officers and 78 civilian employees.

Chief Derek Dunham has been a dedicated member of the Pearland Police Department since 2009. With a strong commitment to public service, he is a certified Master Peace Officer and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Stephen F. Austin State University, as well as a Master of Public Administration from Sam Houston State University. 

Chief Dunham is a graduate of the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas' Leadership Command College (Class #89) and has participated in the University of Virginia's LEAD program through the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service. His leadership and contributions to law enforcement have earned him numerous accolades, including Supervisor of the Year and the J.C. Doyle Leadership Award.

Throughout his career, Chief Dunham has held a variety of roles, including assignments in Patrol, Traffic, Criminal Investigations, and Special Operations. He has also been an active member of the Bike Patrol, Honor Guard, and SWAT Teams.
