Chief SpiresChief Johnny Spires began his career in law enforcement with the Pearland Police Department in 1989. He was promoted to Asst. Chief in 1998 and Chief in 2017. Chief Spires holds a Master Peace Officer Certification, is a graduate of the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas, has attended the University of Virginia's LEAD program through the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service and is currently attending Sam Houston State University. He served as an instructor at a local police academy for 15 years where he taught officer survival tactics. Chief Spires is the past Commander of the Combined Agency Response Team, a multi-agency S.W.A.T. team composed of officers from the Alvin, League City, and Pearland Police Departments. He was named Officer of the year in 1991 by the Knights of Columbus and was also a recipient of the Medal of Valor in 1992. Chief Spires serves the community with many outreach programs. He coached basketball in the MADD outreach program, started and organized the Police Department Toys for Tots program, organized Relay for Life teams and is a current member of the Pearland LIONS club. In his off-time, Chief Spires enjoys basketball, hunting, spending time with his three children, and volunteering with the PISD Rise Mentor program
