Robert Upton named Pearland Director of Engineering
Robert Upton has been named the Director of Engineering and City Engineer for the City of Pearland. He comes to Pearland with more than 15 years of experience in engineering, project management and surveying, and is licensed as an Engineer in Texas, Arizona and Utah.

City Council approves design contract for Smith Ranch Road Widening Project
Pearland City Council has approved a $1.1 million contract for the engineering work for the Smith Ranch Road Widening project.

Observation Deck added to Pearland Nature Trail
In an effort to enhance the Nature Trail near the Sports Complex at Shadow Creek Ranch, the City’s Parks & Recreation Department installed an observation tower that elevates a low section of the trail previously inaccessible during heavy rainfalls. Located at 1801 Kingsley Drive near the Sports Complex at Shadow Creek Ranch, the observation deck is 15 meters above the ground.

Pearland City Council approves design contract for Green Tee Terrace Trail
The way has been cleared for work to start on Green Tee Terrace Trail, with Pearland City Council's approval of a $477,000 contract for design work of the recreational trail.

Ceremony signifies the opening of Fire Station 2
Pearland's newest Fire Station is now open. Fire Station 2 is a 10,726-square-foot station designed to house one 4-person Engine Crew, one 4-person Ladder Crew and one 2-person Ambulance Crew.

City awarded certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
The City of Pearland has again been nationally recognized for excellence in financial reporting. This year, just as in the past 40 years, the City's CAFR has received recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada.

The City-County Communications & Marketing Association presented the City of Pearland with an award in its national competition. The Communications Department received the second place Silver Circle Award.

PEARLAND POLICE DEPARTMENT TRAINS OFFICERS TO DEAL WITH PEOPLE IN MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS
The City of Pearland is stepping up its efforts to meet the needs of residents with mental illness. As part of that effort, Pearland Police Chief J.C. Doyle implemented an initiative that requires Mental Health Peace Officer training for all Pearland Police Department officers in an effort to more effectively serve the City and its residents.

EXPECT INCREASED TRAFFIC IN SCHOOL ZONES
School will be back in session on Aug. 22 for area schools and that means heightened traffic activity near the schools. During this time, residents are urged to stay clear of school campuses unless absolutely necessary.

BAILEY ROAD CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES
